What is GATE?
GATE is an exam conducted by IISc and IITs for mainly taking admissions in master degree courses of their institutes.

Following candidates are eligible for this exam
- Any student who is in final year or who has passed the B. Tech or B.E. program can appear in this exam
- Students who has done B. Tech or B.E. after diploma or B. Sc.
- Bachelor degree holders of Architecture
- Bachelor degree in science (4 yrs. or post diploma)

Opportunities after qualifying GATE exam
There are several opportunities after qualifying this exam with good marks. Some of them are
Admissions in IITs and IISc
GATE score card is mainly used for getting admission in IITs and IISc. A decent scholarship is also offered to the students.
Admissions in other technical institutions in the country
Apart from taking admissions in IITs and IISc, GATE score card is also used in taking admission in other government colleges like NITs and other reputed colleges.
Now a day many candidates also give this exam as many government organization have started taking recruitment from this exam. These organizations are generally government companies like IOCL, ONGC, GAIL etc. Recently DRDO has also started taking recruitments based on GATE score card.

Make your own notes
While studying you should start making your own exhaustive notes of all subjects. Never take somebody else’s note for studying, always make your own notes, these will help you a lot.
While starting your preparation for GATE you should first pick one subject book and go through that thoroughly. Make exhaustive notes even on very first time.
Your notes be in such a manner that after making notes of a subject you do not need to open the book for consulting something.

Solving numerical helps you in building your concept, solve as many numerical as possible. Also, this exam involves many numerical questions, you have to answer them if you want success.
Do not underestimate mathematics
Many students who are preparing for GATE do not give proper attention to mathematics. Since, this exam has considerable weightage of mathematics, one should not take it lightly.
Do mastery in strong topics
Make all topics of you interest very strong. We should master your strong topics to the extent that you are able to answer any question from that topic.
Do not leave any topic
While preparing do not leave any topic. Sometimes very easy questions are asked from the topics which you did not prepared. At least read each topic of the syllabus once.
Work hard on your weak areas
The subjects on which you do not hold a command, you should work hard. Even a single mark is very important in such an exam. Make a study schedule and stick to that.
Maintain study discipline
Make a schedule and follow it honestly and have a discipline. Most if you would be aware of what discipline but today I am giving to give another definition of discipline.
Discipline is doing right thing at right time, weather you want to do it or not
Have confidence on what you have prepared till now. Do not fear of mob which is in the exam center to give the exam. Many candidates fill the form just for formality, they do not have any preparation. Have 100% faith in yourself and crack the damn exam.
Remember it is your exam, you are going to test your preparation in the exam, you are not going to compete with others.
