We all know walking on a dry surface is much easier than that of on a slippery surface.
Why walking on a slippery surface is difficult than walking on dry road?
The reason is, a slippery surface is not able to provide us the necessary friction required to hold the grip and move forward.
Now imagine the same situation for a car trying to move on a slippery surface, say it be snow.
No need to say that the situation will be pathetic.
Tiers will slip and the car will not be able to achieve its full speed. If somehow it attains its full speed than it will be very difficult to stop the car immediately in case of emergency (because of lack of friction).
Both the conditions are not suitable to us.
There are two solutions to deal with this situation.
- Remove all the snow from the road.
- Modify your car’s tier according to the conditions.
Going with first solution is impossible. Now the only choice left is to go with the second solution.
But the question is
How we can modify our cars tiers according to snowy road?
The answer is use winter tiers instead of ordinary tiers.
Now the second question arises
What are winter tiers?
Winter tires are specially designed tiers, which are to be used in the areas were friction in road surface is very low.
These tires have bigger tread design with bigger gap than those tires which are used in summer days.
These tires are made to operate below 7°C.
However even these tires fail if a car desires to maintain a decent speed in such a slippery winter road. Hence for this case we have to use specially designed studded tires.
Obviously, the next question which strikes to our mind
What are studded Tires?
Studded tiers are specially designed tires fitted with studs (generally made Tungsten Carbide), to hold extreme grip even in the snowy road.
They maintain a positive engagement with the road. Studded tires pierce the snow and get the required grip to move through it.
These tires generally made Tungsten Carbide, which is a very hard ceramic.
Studded tires can cause a huge damage to the roads, while driving in summer season. Hence, in many countries these types of tires are only allowed in winter season and not in summer season.
There is a variety of Studded tires available in market as per the need of user. Some people even modify their ordinary car tires themselves, to get exactly what they desire.
